Beaverton, OR 97005
To whom it may concern:
I am writing in response to the position of Microwave/Satellite Truck
Operator and/or Editor.
I can bring a very loyal, honest, reliable, organized, independent, clean,
multi-tasking hard worker to your team.
I have three years, five months experience editing news stories and
uplinking videos, in house, to different satellites on a daily basics. I
have a Bachelors of Arts degree in Video Communication. I have very good
computer skills, as I am profession with ENPS, AP, and our new video news
servers NewPathNow (CBS), and PathFire (CNN). Also, I have a good
background in electronics and computer repair/building. And my hobby is
building and editing my web sites.
When I worked at KVAL in Eugene, Oregon, I was responsible for editing our
one-hour morning and 30 minute noon newscast. Also during my shift, I am
taking in feeds from one or sometimes both of our digital receivers (Tadiran
and/or Tiernan), which I have programmed in the right downlink frequency.
I am also doing uplinks just about every day using the Advent Exciter (AVM
2951) transmitter, which I have also programmed in the right frequency as
needed. Also, after my work was done and the newscast has started, I would
help with running the teleprompter. When I worked the night shift doing
the 5pm, 6pm, and 11pm newscast, I would take in raw feeds from our live
crews out in the field, and edit it minutes before it had to air. Also,
during the week, I did a little computer trouble shooting with the ``CBS
News Path Now`` server. In the past three years, five months with KVAL, I
have only taken 3 sick days off. I enjoyed coming to work. I would also,
roll and maintain the air-check tapes for assigned news shows.
On many Fridays after I worked my 8-hour shift (4am to 12:30pm), I would
go out with our live truck operator, Loren Ruark. His shift would start
about 3pm, and end about midnight. Even though I was very tired, I enjoyed
being out there doing live shots. I helped him start up the generator,
turn on all the equipment, pull out the cable from the reel, and roll the
cable back onto the reel, bring up the mass and then down again, point the
antenna to the towers, and hook up the camera. I also drove our live
trucks.
I have some training using our microwave truck equipment, and training
using two of our other stations (KOMO, KATU) satellite truck equipment. I
would be very interested in getting fully trained with both the microwave
and satellite trucks, even if I have to train on my own time (after work
or on weekends). I would also be interested in being a backup or full time
Microwave and/or Satellite Truck Operator, after I am fully trained.
While I was attending Central Washington University (CWU) from 1996 to
2000, I have done many productions, live and taped and enjoyed every
minute of them. Since there are so many productions that I did, I just
though that I would put a link to where they all are:
http://www.markerrington.com/resume/productionlog.html
Also in 1987, I learned to drive an 18-wheeler, semi tractor-trailer and
received my class A license.
I have been around electronics from age 12, and have also taken classes on
electronics. From 1985 to present, I have computer technician skills.
I would very much like to hear from you and hopefully meet with you soon,
please call me at (503)734-8550 (cell/message) or (503)469-9479
