My family left Torrance, California, when I was about 5 yrs old. I just finished Kindergarten. We moved to N. Long Beach, California, to a house at 6801 Orange Ave. I went to Ulysses S. Grant Elementary School from 1965-1970, then went to Alexander Hamilton Middle School from 1971-1973, then went to David Starr Jordan School from 1974-1976. I didn't finish high school because my parents got a divorce and I dropped out with just 6 months to go. Later on in life I received my GED Certificate and in June 2000, I received my Bachelors of Arts Degree in Video Communication from Central Washington University. A little more about my background; in November 1987, I moved to Seattle, Washington after living in the Los Angles area for about 30 years. In July 2000, I relocated to Eugene, Oregon. In March 2004, I relocated to Beaverton, Oregon. When I was unemployed in January 1992, for about a year, I learned how to be a Locksmith
through a mail ordering school, Foley-Belsaw
Company. After I completed the course, I bought my tools, key blanks, and some lock picking tools to open cars and most any type of locks. I have done a few locksmithing jobs that just paid for all
my locksmithing supplies. One locksmithing job that I did was in Washington, at Marlee's Restaurant/Tavern, and the motel behind the Restaurant. I became a webmaster in December 1996. My friend George Wambaugh III who had been a webmaster 5 years before I became one, talked me into getting my own domain name, and showed me some tricks and rules on how to make good web pages and edit CGI scripts. After a few months of trial and error I learned these tricks and remembered the rules. My first domain name was "mark.pair.com" and a year later I
changed it to "itsup2u.com" (It's up to you). A song by Rick Nelson
that I like.
I enjoy making web pages because I can be as creative as I want. After I learned a few tricks, I can build any kind of web page. Even though I don't know how to program in Visual C++ or Visual Basic, yet. I can find that programming in HTML and editing JavaScripts or CGI scripts is just as rewarding. Now I'm learning how to edit in PHP4 scripts. My computer experience started in 1982 when I bought my first computer, the Vic-20. I learned to program sprite images. Then about a year later, I bought the Commodore 64 computer. With this computer I learned how to make music and graphics. I also, bought a voice box so I could make my computer talk. And then I bought a pc board with about 15 small relays on it that plugged in to the back of my computer. I programmed my computer to turn the lamps off and on at different times. At this time, I went to work for Xscribe Corp. as a Computer Technician. I was first a computer operator and a few months later I became a computer technician. My main task was not only to fix the computers but to make our customers satisfied. I worked closely with court reporters all day. Most of the time I would get calls from angry court reporters but I would always stay calm and helped them with their computer problems. I didn’t get angry with them because I understood what they were going through. As a computer technician, I would go to the court house and repair court reporter’s computers and/or stenograph machines. I would replace circuit boards, and sometime make adjustments to their monitor. I would also, go to their homes or office and install their new computer, and printer, and have it running correctly before I left. Then a few years later, I bought the Commodore 128. With this computer, I learned how to configure a dial-up modem so I could access the Internet. At this time CompuServe dial-up access was free and you could only see text. Around the end of 1985 or so, CompuServe started to charge me $5.00 per month, so I canceled my service with them. I sold my computers in 1990 and in 1992; I went back to college to get a degree. That year I bought a portable computer with a 90 MHz CPU, a 500MB hard drive, with Windows 95 operating system, and Microsoft Office. I learned all about Windows 95 and Microsoft Office while going to college. When I transferred to Central Washington University (CWU), in 1996, to complete my degree, I bought a desktop computer with Windows 95, and got hooked on the Internet. The first summer I added an extra hard drive. Then I was adding more memory, changing the video card, formatting the hard drive again, and re-installing the operating system again. The next year, I bought Windows 98, and learned about this operating system. Also, by this time, I had installed and uninstalled about 150 different software programs. And during my time at CWU, I had built about 7 computers and sold two of them with monitors. I enjoy building computers because it was so easy for me to do. And after a while, my friends came to me with their computer problems. So, I would go to their place and fix it for them. Also at CWU, I took a class in Windows 2000 server networking. In this class, I learned how to set up user accounts and set permissions for each user. I have also learned about using routers with a networking system. About a year after I graduated and moved to Eugene, OR, to work for KVAL TV. I started to work part time as a small web host provider, EugeneHosting.com, for the extra money. I have root access to the Red Hat Linux server. I set up, delete accounts, troubleshoot and answer questions that customers may have, either by phone, support tickets, or email. I have been working part time for them for about 2 years. I also built a water-cooled computer but after 2 years the water pump stopped working so I replace it with a CPU power fan. My computer’s operating system now is Windows XP Pro. I am now working full time with my locksmithing business, and I'm a full time Apartment Manager, On the side, I have a little web hosting business, Some Software Experiences:
My hobbies for now are: helping other people learn how to make web pages, photography, running my web host business, locksmithing, computer repair, editing CGI scripts, making web pages for myself and others. Also, helping them set up their web accounts and help them get their very own domain name(s) (e.g., www.YourDomain.com) on the web.
